Catie Lutz Comes to Savannah

This past week was my spring break and my dear old roommate Catie Lutz came to visit me in Savannah. We had a lot of fun together running all over Savannah. First thing that we did when Catie was stop at Zaxby's for some southern fried chicken. Then that night we went to a Rock Band party at our friends the Barnes' house. Sunday Catie saved my life by helping me with my rambunctious sunbeams and then we went for dinner and games at the Brown's house. Catie and I made this really good pound cake for dessert.
On Monday we went downtown and started off our day at Mrs Wilkes Dining Room. Mrs Wilkes is a famous Savannah cook and her restaurant is family-style dining so you get real friendly with the other guests there. We then went on a tour of the Mercer-Williams house, made famous from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. We also saw the Cathedral of St John the Baptist.
Tuesday morning we went downtown for the famous Savannah St Patrick's Day parade. Savannah has the second largest St. Paddy's day celebration in the nation and people come from miles around so that they can be drunk in the streets by about 10am. Most of the locals avoid the downtown because it can get pretty rowdy but we've never been, so we thought we'd take Catie for the experience. We took a shuttle from the mall so that we wouldn't have to fight traffic and got there just as the parade was starting. We stayed for an hour-and-a-half, just long enough to see some marching bands, bagpipe bands, and old men wearing green, and left before people got too crazy. It was actually really an easy and fun trip, nothing like people made it out to be.

After the parade we went to Bonaventure cemetery and then came home and made some delicious lemon cream pie.
On Wednesday we went out to Tybee Island and visited the Tybee lighthouse museum and the beach. It was a really fun day but it was really windy and so cold! Afterwards we went back downtown to check out City Market and River street. We had so much fun looking in this kitchen store that we hardly even had time to see anything else! The had the sassiest aprons and the cutest purse lunchbags that were so much fun.
On Thursday Catie left on her jet-plane to go home to Utah. We had a fun visit and I'm so glad she came!
