Camping with the YSA

This weekend John and I went camping with the Stake YSA as their honorary advisors. Actually, our friends Robyn Thomas and Jess McConnell were in charge and no one from the stake had RSVP'd so they didn't know if anyone was coming! It was a lot of fun and people actually did show up after all. We went camping at Hunting Island Beach, right out on the Atlantic coast. John and I haven't been camping in a couple years and although we froze that night, we had a lot of fun. We had tin foil dinners and Key Lime pie straight from the Florida Keys! (Jess is a pilot and he brought some back for us from his trip earlier this week! Yum!) Afterwards we sat around the camp fire and played get-to-know-you games. We enjoyed our stint as honorary advisors, thanks for inviting us Robyn and Jess! Unfortuneately, we didn't get to stay long in the morning because we had to get back to clean the chapel, then John was off to help the missionaries move and then we went to our old bishop's house for a sing-along. What a day!

Trip to Atlanta with the Ballards

Easter weekend we went to Atlanta with our friends Gina and Cody Ballard. They took us to the Brave's game, it was my very first time going to a baseball game! It was a lot of fun, even when the game was postponed for an hour and a half while we waited out the storm capable of producing a tornado. That's right. There was a tornado warning and we went to the game anyway! (Along with about 48,000 other people!) It was opening night and the Braves won against the Washington Nationals but the game didn't end until 1:30am, we didn't get to our hotel until after 2am!

The next day we went to the Atlanta temple. That was really nice, the temple is closing for a year and a half for renovations, so this was the last time we'd be able to go.

After the temple we got some great BBQ and went to the Body Worlds exhibit. It was really cool. The body is pretty amazing. We weren't supposed to take pictures, but John has a bit of a rebellious spirit so he sneaked a few.

Thanks for a great weekend Gina and Cody!
Easter Sunday came and I had been so busy the week before our trip that I forgot to get anything special for dinner. Luckily, the Allettos had us over for dinner. It was so nice. Thanks!

Conference Weekend in Helen

This weekend we went on a trip with our friends Tiffany and Chris to Helen, Georgia. Helen is a German alpine-themed village in the north Georgia mountains. The village was so cute, the scenery so beautiful, the cabin so awesome, and the trip so relaxing. Chris and Tiffany rented this awesome cabin and invited us to come with them. (We had actually never met Chris before but he and John became fast friends, it was a beard thing...) The cabin could have fit 10 people, it had a pool table, a foozball table, a grill, a hot tub, and a tv and it was right on the river. We had a lot of fun playing nertz, scum (President Tiffany won every round...), and taboo.
We drove up on Friday and met in town with enough time to stroll through the super cute downtown. All the buildings were German-style and so cute. We went to a cookoo clock shop and had dinner at a german restaurant. I was excited for it but it ended up being an interesting experience. I thought I was getting a sampler plate (I couldn't decide what to get) and ended up getting a plate with four meals on it: pork chop, pork loin, and two -wurst sausage things. It was an experience, I can say no more.

On Saturday we went to Unicoi National Forest and hiked around the Unicoi Lake. It was a beautiful day and we all got sunburnt. Tiffany and I put our feet in the lake and it was freezing!

On Sunday we drove home, and with the help of John's love for technology and the iphone, we listened to conference. It was great because we didn't have anything distracting us and we got to talk about it in between sessions. My favorite part of the trip was being with John and being able to talk with him the whole trip up. The whole trip was a ton of fun, it was great to see Tiffany, get to know Chris, play games, and explore in nature. Thanks Tiffany and Chris!
