Girls Camp 2008--Get Anchored!

This week I went to Girls Camp with the Young Women in my ward. The camp was held at AH Stephen's State Park, about a 3.5 hour drive from Savannah. I was asked to be the ward camp director a couple of months ago. I was honestly a little nervous to go because I have been of the opinion that all teenagers are obnoxious and annoying. I was also worried that the girls would pulverize me, or at least do pranks on me until I cried. Well let me just say that my girls proved me wrong. They were all lovely and so fun to hang out with all week. It was the other leaders that gave me a hard time. They all thought that I was one of the girls and not a leader so more than one person gave me a lot of sass. And lets just say the ones who did find out that I was a leader were embarrassed. Besides the badly-behaved adults, I had a great time at camp. I thought that I would hate it and miss John the whole time (this is the longest we've been apart in 2 years) but I didn't. It was nice to have some girl time.

Here are some highlights from the camp:

*Kassidi describing her mother's excellent health by saying " My mom's a freakin' Clydesdale!"

*The girls' Cinderella skit where Kasie wore a paper bag for her rags and a plastic bag for her riches

*All the leaders who were shocked that I was a leader

*All the girls who were shocked that I was a leader

*The Luau where Lisa and I joined the 2nd year girls in the Slap Dance

*Lori and some other YCL's capsizing the canoe when they were trying to paddle away from President Cork who was only swimming

*Sister Woods, the camp director, capsizing the canoe when she tried to get in off the dock

*Getting to know the girls better and discovering that (some) teenagers really aren't so bad!

awesome, you went to camp! I remember in Texas when we were youth leaders they all thought we were just new youth who were brother and sister. At a stake dance, they even told us to not dance so closely until they found out we were married:)
