BUGS
We've learned that Georgia is home to many species of bugs as well as many fine people. Last week we found this cockroach lying dead on our carpet. Thank-you Bug-man. We can have our apartment sprayed weekly for bugs if we want. Thank goodness the roach wasn't alive or who knows what kind of havoc would have broken loose. To capture the full effect of our friend, my thumb has been included in the picture.
Some other bugs that drive us crazy here are the sand gnats. (Our local baseball team is affectionately named after them.) I'd include a picture but they're also known as "no-see'ems". They're really tiny and can fly through the screens in your window. And they bite, which wouldn't be so bad if their bite didn't itch for DAYS after! They're everywhere in the spring. There are less of them now because its hotter in the day, but they come out in the morning and the evening. Really you can't ever go out side because if it's not too hot, the sand gnats are out. I have been told that in October the weather is beautiful and there are no gnats. We'll look forward to that month.

The first cockroach I found here was at 2 in the morning in Lily's bedroom (before Derek was born). I was in there getting her back to sleep when I saw it running out of the corner of my eye. SCARED me to death!! I woke Kevin up and made him find it and kill it, since I had vissions of it breeding and crawling all over my little girl. They are so fast, he almost didn't believe me that it was there, but eventually he killed the nasty thing.
PS. If you ever do need to kill one, don't flush it down the toilet, as they can swim.
Clark and I have heard there are huge cockroaches in Texas. I definitely am not looking forward to that after seeing your picture. Atleast I know what they look like though!! Yuck!
oh fun! i think i'd really freak out about the ones that can fly through your screen, that's a bit creepy...
